Our story

Heritage

Over the past four decades, Hi-Tech Plastics has built a reputation as a leader in UK plastic injection moulding. This is our story.

  1. 1984

    Humble Beginnings

Hi-Tech Plastics Limited was founded in 1984 by Dennis Lang and his father, Peter Lang, in the modest surroundings of Peter's garden shed in Blackburn. Dennis, then a toolmaker at the Royal Ordnance Factory, made the company's first mould tools in his spare time, while Peter ran a small single-phase injection moulding machine that plugged into a standard 13-amp socket. What began as a hobby soon grew, producing simple moulded bushes for Blackburn's thriving office furniture industry.

  2. 1985

    A Full-Time Job

After around twelve months of part-time operation, Dennis left the Royal Ordnance Factory to focus on the business full-time. The company moved out of the garden shed and into an old multi-tenanted mill in Blackburn, where production expanded and the business continued to develop.

  3. 1987

    Moving Home

Several years later, the company moved again - this time into its first purpose-built premises, giving Hi-Tech Plastics the room it needed to grow.

  4. 1992

    A UK First for Arburg

Hi-Tech Plastics purchased the first 400-tonne Arburg machine to be imported into the UK - having already been the first UK company to buy a 250-tonne Arburg some years earlier. We've placed our trust in Arburg's machines ever since.

  5. 1995

    Shadsworth Business Park

Approximately eight years after that, Hi-Tech Plastics relocated to its current site in Shadsworth Business Park. At the time it was much smaller than the facility seen today, but it provided a forever home for the company to continue to expand and grow.

  6. 1997

    Full Ownership

Thirteen years after the business was founded, Dennis purchased Peter's 50% share of the company. Since then, Hi-Tech Plastics has grown steadily through organic development - more than doubling the size of its premises while continuing to increase sales and profitability.

  7. 2006

    A Major Expansion

The Shadsworth site was dramatically expanded to make room for extra machines and a growing team - including a dedicated area for tool manufacture and repair, cementing our in-house tooling capability.

  8. 2011

    Monitoring to the Second

We implemented the InTouch Monitoring System across the factory, giving real-time visibility of all 27 machines. It lets us track production, downtime and changeover times to the second, keeping every job on schedule.

  9. 2024

    25 Years and Counting

Our longest-serving team member, production manager Tracy, celebrated 25 years with Hi-Tech Plastics - one of many employees who have been with us for over a decade, bringing a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the team.

  10. 2026

    A New Chapter with Venture

In February 2026, Hi-Tech Plastics was acquired by Venture under its Project Lion portfolio. Building on the strong foundations established by Dennis and Peter Lang, Venture will lead the next phase of the company's development - supporting continued investment, growth and expansion while maintaining the engineering expertise and customer focus that have defined the business for more than four decades.
